Coming to Japan and essentially starting life again was not easy.

One of the biggest obstacles was understanding the tax system and how I would be able to continue work in a similar fashion to my life back in Australia.

Sifting through information online is also not so easy, but I found the answer I was looking for through the Live Work Play Japan website - Otani San and his accounting business; Otani Accounting Office.

Within a few simple emails I had organised a meeting with him at his office in Otsuka which is easily accessed by train from the Yamanote line, and less than a 5 minute walk from the station.

Though my business is not necessarily complex and only just beginning, Otani San offered me great advice on how to make progress in Japan. Instantly I felt the pressure fade and I had a straight-forward plan on how to complete my tax filings in Japan. Otani's experience and knowledge is considerable, all packaged with a proficiency in English that makes him the first person you should see when it comes to accounting and financial services here in Japan.

Adrian bianco

Coming to Japan as a Berlin creative wasn’t easy at all.

Back in Germany, my taxes were never a big issue. Although everything is a bit more chaotic back home, it still worked out.

Japan, however, is completely different. Things have to be in line 100% of the time. You just can`t mess things up here. And if you want to stay forever, you better keep things tidy from day one.

Otani-San and Carolin are the two people that take care of these things for me. Every time I leave their office I feel very relieved and secure.

My creative chaos found a safe space in their office and I am very thankful for that.
